340 Miles Rount Trip for Ice Cream

leave a comment »

Four girls and seven boys (and one dad)

Yesterday we drove to Waterbury, Vermont with our 4H group for a tour of the original Ben & Jerry’s manufacturing plant. We all (the girls and I) thought it was kind of a silly distance to drive — about eight hours round trip — for ice cream that we could buy at our local grocery store, but we had a pretty good time together in the car. We had two laptops for watching movies and one iPod for watching Avatar episodes and listening to preteen music. (Luckily for me, the girls share some of my taste in music, so we listened to some of my favorite songs, too!) They told stories, played games like “twenty questions,” took fresh-air breaks on the top of the car when we stopped, and of course enjoyed lots of ice cream. We also went to a nearby cider press. I consider it a bonding experience!
