About: A Return to Art

Over twenty years ago I was an artist. Somehow I came to believe that giving up art and seeking out more “practical” pursuits meant “growing up.” This blog chronicles my return to art making and what James Hillman would call “growing down.”

“The roots of the soul are in the heavens, and the human grows downward into life.” ~James Hillman, The Soul’s Code

My family is four — Cheryl (me), Scott (my husband), and our two daughters Andrea (13) and Jessa (10). This year began our sixth year of homeschooling and our third year of unschooling.

  1. Beautiful Blog! Thank you so much for taking the time to share your beliefs and experiences. I am a single unschooling mom in Northern WI. I was also unschooled. It has been a beautiful adventure, through my own life, and now in my life alongside my children. I’m in the middle of a big life transition now, and I found your posts so inspiring, not just in believing in my kids, but also in myself.
